I can’t stress how important it is to be honest when you are dating. I’ve been out with men who’ve lied about their appearance, their age, their jobs, and even their sexual conquests. It’s a deal breaker for me.

I know why we lie. We want someone to like us. And maybe we don’t like the person we are, so lying makes it all feel better somehow. But building a relationship on lies means they still don’t like you. They like the person you have pretended to be instead.

It’s hard to be honest if you’re not feeling confident. Maybe if that’s you, think about dating yourself for a bit first (that means spending some time finding out about yourself)- spending time finding out how cool you are.

Confidence is the most attractive attribute any of us can own. It’s a powerful thing that overcomes imperfections. And we only gain it when we like ourselves as we are.

I love an honest dater. It’s a pleasure spending time in the company of someone like that. And I can only hope I’m honest back. I think anyone I spend time with deserves to decide to like me, not the person I think I should be.
